Peer coaching.
This is an extension of Peer education into sport. Peer education, has been used in many areas of public health, including nutrition education, family planning, substance abuse and violence prevention.
In EduSport, peer coaching implies an approach, a communication strategy, channel, methodology, or philosophy used to effect change by modifying a persons knowledge, attitudes, beliefs or behavior at individual level while at group level this involves the use of members to effect change among other members of the group.
This is effective as:-
- Youths learn much from their fellows
- Peer Coaches are popular in their local communities due to their supremacy in many sports disciplines making them role models.
- Youths acquire leadership and team management skills at a tender age.
Peer Encounter
|
This is a program for both youths who are not catered for in sport and the inactive ones aimed at providing opportunities for them to come together and be able to participate collectively in life skills by discussing freely and share knowledge on issues that affect them e.g. HIV/AIDS, Sexuality and early pregnancies.
