Four girls from the EduSport Under 14’s football team were selected to
represent Team Zambia at this years Norway Cup which ran from the 18th
July to the 2nd of August. The event was held in the country’s capital
Oslo and has been running since 1972.
The squad of players were comprised by four of the best players from Sport In Action, Score Zambia, SOS Children’s Villages as well as EduSport making a squad of sixteen.
Despite reaching the finals in free scoring style, Team Zambia were ultimately left disappointed as rain saw the next set of fixtures cancelled on account of poor weather. The girls recovered from an ominous defeat in their first Level A encounter with Tertner to sneak qualification going from strength to strength in the progress. Needing to beat Hvam/R&A/Haga in their final group game to progress, they did so, running out convincing 5-0 winners before seeing off Njardar/Tysnes in the quarters by the same score line. Their fine form continued with another solid victory, this time prospering at the expense of Bones to reach what would have been the finals had it not been for the relentless Scandanavian rain.
However the experience wasn’t just about football as the team were featured in more than three tabloids and also appeared on National Television when they were interviewed by an advisor to the Norwegian Labour Party.
