In the year 1999 the first EduSport girls team was formed. This team participated in many local and international tournaments. The team that was called “Kabwata Dream team” reaped gold from the Norway cup in 1999 and 2000.
This team managed to lead the local soccer league for many seasons. It’s for the achievements of this team that the potential was noticed and need for the National team was realized. EduSport contributed 16 players and 5 officials towards the same national team. In fact one of our peer leaders (Annie Namukanga) was the first Women National Soccer team captain.
Kabwata boys team
Despite winning so many trophies for the organization and the nation, very little room and opportunity
for progress was given to the girls. This led to the birth of EduSport Academy-existing to identify, tap and develop the abundant talent. Though we are determined to make every youth acquire the much needed basic education, we are convinced that not all have the ability to excel in education, hence the need to identify and make use of other areas in which young people can do better.
International competitions
The Foundation has been sending youth teams to these international soccer tournaments. Its at these tournaments that the youths that have completely lost hope get charged to forget about their economic status and feel motivated to live positively and productively. Our happiness is not just in taking these youths there but get them back to school when they return with a lot of eagerness to progress and be role models to the friends they meet.
EduSport Crowned Gothia Champions
The EduSport United team was in 2005 crowned champions of the Gothia cup tournament in the named year. This was after they won all the matches in that years Gothia cup in the under 18 boys category. EduSport broke history as they were the first African team to win this competition at that level.
The team that has participated in this tournament at deferent levels went on to win the local Lusaka Province Football Challenge cup and later on won the armature league.
Thanks to Helsingborg IF of Sweden for the Camping programme that they have offered and arranged for us since last 2004
